Visual Capitalist: The Top 10 Largest Nuclear Explosions Visualised

Origins: This was made by a scientific graphics journalist and visual communicator named Mark Belan as can be seen in the image above, for the website VisualCapitalist.com.

Content: It contains the top ten largest nuclear explosions with a focus on the measure of the destructive radius. It also has other information such as the name of the nuclear project, the height of the gas cloud made by the explosion a.k.a. mushroom head (placing this beside Mount Everest, the tallest mountain from sea level, to bring the heights of the explosions into natural perspective), the country which carried out these explosions, with the year and site of the explosion, and the amount of explosive energy.

Media Material: This visualization was made into an image format with an accompanying article which can be found on the Visual Capitalist website here.

Visual treatment: The infographic was made using a combination of text, representative photographs for the mushroom heads, illustrations, and diagrams to give more information.

La Lettura

Origins: La Lettura is a cultural supplement section of an Italian newspaper called "Corriere della Sera. It is a visualization in which the data was collected, processed, and represented by Pentagram's partner Giorgia Lupi, and the data visualization company "Accurat" coupled with the help of newsroom staffs of Corriere della Sera.

Content: It's a representation of a large range of data sets ranging from the height of the tallest building, number of visitors and tourists, and average annual temperature to the average price of 120 sqm property in central urban zones. In total, it properly illustrates more than 10 varying data sets, of 25 countries, according to their longitude and latitude and consequently, their temperature zone.

Media Material: Just like the above visualization, it was all done to be presented as an image with accompanying information on the website to explain the process which can all be found here

Visual treatment: It comprises of mainly text and diagrams all through. The diagrams are comprised mainly of geometric shapes treated with a uniform gradient colour for each correlating part, with the only exception being the world map at the top right corner which points out the location of these cities - the relatable and easily associable part of the infographic.
