Analysing Wayfinding Boards

Board 1 Audiences : An easy way to approach this would be to lay both the wayfinding boards into comparison, at least when it comes to the audiences, thus, who has this bridge being made for? The unique thing to point out in relation to the other board is that this wayfinding pole has finger-like parts pointing/aligned in the direction of the location the finger/nameplate has been labelled with. What the direction alignment feature helps to do really well is to briskly provide the user with the right direction, as soon as they can find the name of their location on it, thus, it is for people who need just one thing, the right direction, and nothing more. Age-wise, taking what the material the pole was crafted from, and the design of the pole into consideration, it was made a while back, therefore, for a much older audience who most likely did not and probably still do not traverse the area with the aid of a GPS-enabled smartphone. Colour : Albeit difficult to see now as this has been r...

18th of March 2024 Read through the new document uploaded on Blackboard, to see if there is enough information there for people, then ask the class if there is enough information there for people to answer the brief appropriately. 1 st of March 2024 Where am I right now? In line with the mood board assignment, my interpretation of it was that we should have three Creative territories ready for presentation by the next class as that would be the proper progression of things, but I was still yet to get a clear picture of the type of data that was in the research paper and the way to approach the design whatsoever, so I went ahead to break down the data further by plotting a simple Bar chart out of it. Before plotting this chart, I was considering merging the two criteria (Severity and Prevalence), but, I realised after plotting the chart that the symptom with the highest severity or prevalence is different for each category. Thus, this simply means I'd have to have a graph for each ...

Top 10 largest Nuclear Explosions in the World Visual Capitalist: The Top 10 Largest Nuclear Explosions Visualised Origins : This was made by a scientific graphics journalist and visual communicator named Mark Belan as can be seen in the image above, for the website VisualCapitalist.com. Content : It contains the top ten largest nuclear explosions with a focus on the measure of the destructive radius. It also has other information such as the name of the nuclear project, the height of the gas cloud made by the explosion a.k.a. mushroom head (placing this beside Mount Everest, the tallest mountain from sea level, to bring the heights of the explosions into natural perspective), the country which carried out these explosions, with the year and site of the explosion, and the amount of explosive energy. Media Material: This visualization was made into an image format with an accompanying article which can be found on the Visual Capitalist website here . Visual treat...

Whilst listening to one of the videos played in my Information design class today, the 2nd of February, 2024, Edward Tufte, a profound name in the world of Infographics mentioned the statement "RESPECT your Audience", which is a bit different from the ubiquitous notion of "KNOWING your Audience". Why did this pique my interest you might ask, it is simply replacing of a word with another to portray the same meaning, but, I must beg to differ in this case and paint a clear picture of the difference between these two statements. Tom, Dick and Harry https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0476888/ Let's take a look at "Knowing your Audience", this involves of course doing the due diligence of finding out who your audience is in much detail as possible - their demographic data (age, job, gender...), and other forms of segmentation that could be used to single out these populace from the multitude. This seems enough, or should I say this is usually enough, but it still...
Harry Beck's Tube Map - Necessity First, Nothing Next

For the sake of context, Harry Beck is an electrician who in 1931 reimagined and redesigned the London Underground map used specifically by passengers. The previous designs by the London Transport were quite meticulous and showed all the intricacies of the path taken but the train (with a few distortions to highlight the center). Map; pocket Underground map issued by UERL, 1908 If this were to be a map used by a person on foot or driving, having to consciously navigate every twist and turn to arrive at his or her destination, this would have been a perfect tool, the passengers on the other hand had just 2 aims whenever they picked up a map - to pinpoint their current positon , and to visually link their current position to their destination . To put it simply, they just want to know they are on the right track (no pun intended, alright, alright, maybe just a little) to get to their destination.
